Bay State Gas Sponsors Fire Science Scholarships
Brockton, MA – June 4, 2001 – Fire investigation, crime scene preservation, emergency medical techniques, search and rescue. With the help of scholarships from Bay State Gas Company, these are just a few of the critical lessons learned by six students in the Massasoit Community College Fire Science program.
Six, $500 Bay State Gas scholarships were awarded to the following students in Massasoit’s Fire Science Technology program. Peter Uzzo, a Brockton firefighter; David Martin, a Sharon firefighter; George Houth III, a firefighter in Easton; Edward Berry, a Dedham firefighter; Sheila Smiley, a Fire Science student from Hanson; and Gary Trudeau, a Taunton firefighter.
Easton Fire Chief Philip Blye, coordinator of the Massasoit Community College Fire Science program, shared his enthusiasm for the scholarships. “Bay State Gas has proven again that they take their relationship with the area fire departments very seriously, and recognize the importance of a quality fire safety education.”
Massasoit Community College President Robert Rose also expressed his appreciation for the scholarships. “We congratulate the success of these six students and look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Bay State Gas in providing educational opportunities for firefighters.”
Bill St. Cyr, operations manager for Bay State Gas, added “Bay State is sponsoring this scholarship program to recognize firefighters and future firefighters for their academic excellence and desire to further their education in the field of fire science. These scholarships are part of the Bay State Gas commitment to the communities we serve. We are proud of our relationship with both Massasoit and the fire departments throughout our service area.”
